Common App launches 2023–2024 application season with 50 new member colleges and universities
Arlington, VA- Today, Common App launched the 2023–2024 application season. Used by more than three million applicants, teachers, and counselors every year, the Common App platform streamlines the college application process, providing resources and guidance to make college more accessible for students around the world.
In addition to providing a single, online application and 24/7/365 support for all students applying to member colleges and universities, Common App connects applicants to a mobile app, financial aid and scholarship information, online portfolios, and a vast library of counselor resources available in English and Spanish.
We are so excited to kick off the 2023–2024 application season with more than 50 new member colleges and universities, including 15 Minority-Serving Institutions for students to explore. Thanks to our increasingly diverse membership, all students, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to pursue their college dreams.
Common App changes beginning August 1
Common App has several changes planned for the 2023–2024 application season, including updated gender identity options. Common App will add ‘X’ or ‘another legal sex’ as an option in addition to ‘female’ and ‘male,’ similar to the addition of ‘X’ as a legal sex indicator on U.S. passports. This builds upon last year's update, which included the introduction of a question allowing applicants to share their preferred first name and select their pronoun set, among other changes. Twenty-four states already include a third option for legal sex markers on official government documents.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to prohibit colleges from considering race in their admissions decisions, Common App will provide its member colleges the option to hide the self-disclosed race and ethnicity data on the application. Common App will continue to use this information for statistical and research purposes. This and other student data help inform Common App’s initiatives and provide important insights that contribute to national conversations on college admissions.
Welcoming two new integration partners
Core to Common App’s mission is supporting those who support students. Today’s launch also includes the expansion of Common App’s integration platform, which enables third-party software developers to seamlessly integrate their products with Common App. The Defined Careers platform from Defined and Pathful Explore will join our existing college counseling platforms supported through this integration service, including:
